Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day
Posted on 11/14/2023
On November 14, 1960, 63 years ago, at the age of six, Ruby became the very first African American child to attend the all-white public William Frantz Elementary School. To be kept safe, she needed to be escorted to school by four federal marshals to protect her from the angry crowd of people who did not want her to go inside the school. We walk tomorrow to promote safe and inclusive schools and communities for all, and to celebrate Ruby’s bravery!
