Discovery PreK Ideas
With our littlest students home for a long stretch it is important to give them activities and opportunities to play and explore rather than too much TV and computer time. Try to get them outside and moving and limit screen time for less than an hour a day.
Read every day! Talk to your child about what you are reading and about other experiences they are having throughout the day. Have them help with chores around the house such as cooking and sorting laundry. Have them draw pictures about their experiences and describe what is happening in the pictures. Do something nice for a neighbor for example, pick up sticks in the yard and count them. Play games that require taking turns.
Hands-on activities like, drawing, play dough, building with blocks, reading books engages children more than passive observation and listening. Letting kids spend at least an hour a day outside will target gross motor skills, sensory experience and release energy.
